Tap into Our Water Business Risk Experience

Since 1986, Managing General Underwriter WaterColor Management has been the source of insurance and risk management solutions for water and wastewater treatment risks. It also underwriters water and wastewater chemical and equipment suppliers. We are the original provider of insurance coverages and loss control services designed for Association of Water Technologies (AWT) members. We are the largest and most competitive underwriter of water treatment risks in the U.S., a testament to the trust the industry has placed in us.

Who We Insure

Our portfolio of clients ranges from one-person water treatment businesses through global organizations with thousands of employees. We evaluate the risk profile of each organization, carefully consider their operations and exposures, and tailor our insurance contracts and prices accordingly. Our clients nationwide include:

  • Industrial and Commercial Water Treatment Firms
  • Blenders, Distributors and Sellers of Water Treatment Chemicals
  • Distributors and Servicers of Water Treatment Equipment
  • Servicers of Boilers and Cooling Systems
  • Water Testing Laboratories
  • Water Treatment Consultants & Scientists

Coverages We Offer

Our specialized Liability and Property insurance solutions are designed to defend you against both spurious and genuine claims, and to preserve your assets and those of your business. Our policies do not have standard industry coverage exclusions for mold, Legionella and other bacteria, corrosives and other contaminants. The same applies to HAZMAT, job-site, own-site, and first-party gradual pollution – all critical to our water-industry clients. We offer the following solutions:

  • General Liability
  • Products Liability (including mold and bacteria) and Products Recall
  • Professional Liability
  • Completed Operations Liability (including mold and bacteria)
  • Pollution Liability including HAZMAT onsite, during transportation and at worksites up to $25m (this is an “occurrence-form” which applies until the expiry of the statute of limitations)
  • Excess Coverage (up to $10m automatically, more on request)
  • Property Insurance
  • Commercial Auto Insurance
  • Boiler and Machinery Insurance
  • Workers Compensation
  • Employee Fidelity/Crime
  • Cyber Crime and Liability
  • Bonds

Our Risk Management Approach

We provide our clients with loss control and risk management strategies, including reviews of water service and (sub)contract agreements. The control and prevention of Legionnaires’, coupled with increased litigation, requires water treaters to have robust contract and risk management plans. Stricter requirements and regulations are in force in New York and will be implemented in other states and through ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 118. Your treatment service and product supply agreements should clearly separate your responsibilities from those of your customers and other contractors. Your agreements may also include hold-harmless, additional insured, and pay-on-behalf clauses. Telephone and on-site loss control surveys and safety advice are available to all our clients at no cost. We recommend that all of our water business clients buy at least a basic cyber crime coverage. This should include fraudulent transfer of company and personal funds, and cyber extortion.

Simply put, our risk management expertise is unrivaled in helping you prevent lawsuits and losses from occurring in the first place. In the event of a loss, you can rely on our unlimited defense cost coverage, the financial strength of our carriers and our knowledgeable and firm third-party claims management approach.
